We Need School Food Pantries!
Many students in our schools are hungry. They live in homes where they don't know where their next meal is coming from. This hurts their development, grades, and future success.
A School Food Pantry can help!
Thanks to a recent change in Texas law, a school can start a School Food Pantry to accept, store, and distribute donated and leftover unopened food to hungry students who might not have food to eat later at home. A pantry also can reduce food waste in cafeterias.

The Letter
Dear school leaders:
I strongly support starting a School Food Pantry at our school(s).
Many students in our schools live in homes unable to provide enough food for them to live an active, healthy life. In fact, 15.4% of Texas families are in this “food insecure” category.
This hurts kids’ development, school attendance, class performance, and future success.
You have the power, under Texas law, to create a School Food Pantry that can accept, store, and distribute donated and leftover food to hungry and food-insecure students. You can be like Jenny Arredondo, a district nutrition leader who has helped create school food pantries on 10 campuses at San Antonio ISD.
Take action now for School Food Pantries for our school(s)!
Sincerely,
A Supporter of Schools and Students
